Colin Powell Obituary- OWELL- – Gen. Colin L. For the benefit of the Board of Visitors, Faculty, Staff, and Students of the Colin Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership of the City College of New York (CCNY), we grieve the death of Gen. Colin L. Powell, our namesake and Chair of our Board of Visitors. General Powell was a man of phenomenal achievement, who rose from humble beginnings in the Bronx, the child of Jamaican outsiders, to turn into a pioneer, a good example, and a motivation. The Colin Powell School mirrors his vision and his energy. He wanted to meet our understudies, hear their accounts and let them know his own. He would urge them to try sincerely and seek after their fantasies. He generally helped them – and all to remember us – that “they’re very much as was I” about 65 years prior. General Powell never missed a Colin Powell School graduation, and he set aside the effort to respectfully acknowledge each understudy procuring a degree. This school remains his, and each graduate of the Colin Powell School is a piece of his inheritance. He was glad for this spot, and we are considerably prouder to have had him as our chief.
